The Hexie Handbook!

Hurray! A Hexie Handbook!

I told you in my Kindling Hexie Quilt post that I couldn’t wait to hand quilt that quilt, and as I was hand-quilting it, all these fun little connections started to spark in my head! I realised, going back over my other hexie-based quilts that I seemed to always use 3” hexies, and I sewed them together in the same hexie grid format. This got me thinking. What if, instead of a single hexie pattern, I created the hexie pattern to cover all hexie patterns?! Hand-quilting is great for big ideas!

And so, Techy Tim, Lucy and I have been stitching (and formatting!) up a storm to bring you 15 hexagon quilt blocks with 16 new quilt designs, and we’ve put them all together in the Hexie Handbook PDF! Each quilt block is laid out in its own quilt, complete with colouring sheet, diagrams and fabric requirements.

Can you believe all of these quilts follow the same basic pattern? So many possibilities! And for those who want to bring their own hexie designs to the table, or make your quilts larger or smaller, we’ve included an entire section on working out shape and fabric requirements for your design.

Finally, a sampler quilt! We’ve called this one Hexie Harvest! I hadn’t really planned to include a sampler quilt from the beginning of this project. But then Lucy and I snapped a photo of some of the blocks we’d made together, and I knew I wanted to make one. It follows the same Kindling grid and has a complete kit available here! I’ve been mulling over a Stitch Along, wondering if I could fit it in before my published book comes out in September. It would mean a block a day! What do you think? Would you be up for it?

For many of the other quilts, we’ve made kits, with the right packs of shapes included to make your chosen quilt, and with optional acrylic templates.

You can find everything Hexie Handbook related in this section of my shop here. My goal is to make every quilt in the e-book, with Lucy, by the end of the year! The biggest challenge is - choosing which one to make next!
